This conference was productive including catching up with old colleagues and meeting some new people. There were some good workshops on using the arts and humanities in medical education, ethics, communications skills, and professionalism. I presented an oral on social accountability: see the entry under Medical Education Research entitled “Cultural Reproduction Impedes Social Accountability”.
Also I facilitated a workshop on social accountability with Jim Rourke, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial. I am awaiting the independent feedback although six of the eleven participants have emailed me to say they enjoyed the discussions which is encouraging.
The organisation of the conference left much to be desired but that is another story. The enthusiasm of the participants compensated for the many organisational weaknesses.
